IT'S CALLED DICK CLARK'S SOLID GOLD SHOWFOR THIS AND MANY OTHER GREAT RARE RADIO SHOWS YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE, KEITH'S KOLLECTABLES.AND, HOW DO YOU DEFINE RARENESS??THERE WERE NO MORE THAN 175 LPS OR CDS PRESSED FOR EACH SHOW (SHOWS PRIOR TO 1990 WERE USUALLY ON LP; SHOWS UP TO AROUND 2000 WERE PRESSED ON CD; AND SHOWS UP TO AROUND 2010 WERE PRESSED ON CDR. SHOWS AFTER AROUND 2010 WERE DISTRIBUTED TO AFFILIATE STATIONS BY DIGITAL DOWNLOAD AND NO LONGER AVAILABLE TO COLLECTORS. PRESSED FOR EACH WEEKLY SHOW. THE 175 NUMBER REPRESENTED THE TOP 175 RADIO MARKETS IN THE COUNTRY AND ONLY ONE STATION IN EACH MARKET COULD AIR THE SHOW. STATIONS IN MARKETS BELOW THE TOP 175 (THERE ARE 306 MARKETS IN THE UNITED STATES) HAD TO TAKE THE SATELLITE FEED OF THE SHOW FROM THE FOX KIDS RADIO NETWORK, THE SYNDICATOR OF THE SERIES)AND, DUE TO CONTRACTUAL LEGAL OBLIGATIONS, EACH RADIO STATION WAS ALLOWED TO AIR EACH SHOW EXACTLY ONCE AND NO MORE. SO, MOST RADIO STATIONS JUST DESTROYED THEM AFTER AIRING SINCE THEY WERE USELESS TO THE STATION AFTER AIRING. THERE IS NO TELLING HOW MANY OF EACH SHOW SURVIVED. Dick's were the Ferrari of Radio Shows, la creme de la creme. Dick Clark was one of the first Masters of Rock and Roll. His Dick Clark's American Bandstand set the pace for a multitude of acts to become famous His dance party format spread across the country and local versions were top rated in their markets. His tv show went on for over 30 years. At one time he had three shows on the ABC Network - his daily American Bandstand show, his Saturday night Beech Nut Gum show and his summer Where The Action Is show. And it was not only television where he attracted millions in his audience. On radio it was the same story. He started in the syndication market in the mid 70's with this series, an hour show, each hour with a special focus. Then he started his countdown show (he had three different countdown shows in his career). Then he started Rock Roll and Remember which at first was hosted by legendary California dj Gene Weed since Dick was under contract to Mutual Broadcasting. He made guest appearances on the Rock Roll and Remember show and finally could be the sole host when his contract with Mutual expired. This show is one of the benchmarks against which all oldies shows were compared. The format was never duplicated but was imitated everywhere. Because there was only ONE Dick Clark. Only ONE person with the knowledge of the business and the artists that he had. What he packed in one show of songs and interviews was just plain over the top. It was a first class show for an initial outing from Dick. Every show had a special feature, usually an artist or group or date in musical history This show was absolutely unbelievable and now you can own one or more for yourself. It came as pictured with one stereo LP WITH its cue sheet in good condition. (after all these shows are approaching 50 years since their one time broadcast!) And, Dick Clark is the poster child of rock and roll . He is Mr. Rock and Roll for my generation and beyond. Owning one of his shows is owning a 'piece of the rock' of rock and roll. These shows are a bit more expensive than most but I have priced them right around what I paid for them. This show is #147, one of the earliest shows in this rare first outing of Dick Clark in radio broadcasting. The series itself had approximately 352 hour long shows, all with their own theme along with special hour shows for Christmas and Year End airing. Radio stations had the option of airing them according to their own schedule since there were no time limited national commercials inserted. Most stations aired them daily, seven days a week. Some ran them in a weekend block, one hour following the other. The feature on this unique and rare show was "Dick plays 16 love song hits"Show contents (with the exclusion of interviews) can be seen on the pictured cue sheet We lost a national icon when Dick passed away. You can own a part of the heritage that was Dick Clark when you own this special show, his masterpiece of music and presented as only Dick could. SO HERE ARE THE BIG QUESTIONS IF YOU DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT RADIO SHOWS: WHAT IS A RADIO SHOW? WHY COLLECT THEM? WHERE DO THEY COME FROM? Well, those are good questions, especially if you have never known of them. First allow me tell you my own personal story of discovering the wonder of radio shows. I discovered radio shows quite by accident while reading one of my favorite (long since departed) magazines called "Discoveries" (It was later bought by the same company that publishes "Goldmine" which I personally always considered a lesser publication, but that is another story. This was before ebay became the driving force in radio show sales (and everything else) in the later 1990's. I was especially attracted in "Discoveries" to a two page (or more) spread in each issue by a guy called "The Old Hippie". Let me tell you, the Old Hippie had it all. He was a real pioneer. Way before anyone knew what radio shows even were let alone that they could be bought as rarities, he had the market cornered. Most shows that he advertised were way beyond my budget but I drooled over those pages every issue and once in a while I could afford one or two. Now, I have attempted in my own humble way to take on the mantle of "The Old Hippie". I have listed over 11,000 unique radio shows of all genres for you to drool over, and most at prices, hopefully, that collectors can better afford! I want to make available to collectors what I could not afford and especially in these days of higher prices and lesser availability.Radio shows are harder and harder to find in quantity and the prices for the ones still out there just go higher and higher as they disappear from the market. However, because of my large presence on eBay, I am always being contacted with selling offers, some of which I take advantage of and some I have to pass on because of the prices. I have found that by buying in bulk, even when many or most of the shows are lesser known but still amazing shows, I can offer the best prices on all titles. So, again, what is a radio show? Well, those are good questions, especially if you have never known of them. Radio Shows are syndicated productions by one of several large and small distributors who supply broadcast product to radio stations normally during weekends when the usual air personalities have a break. Many air on Saturday or Sunday mornings, afternoons or evenings or less often during overnight segments. They were sent to affiliate radio stations under one of two contracts. The most common was called the 'barter' contract where stations received the show for no cost and the national commercials were a part of the show. Local stations could add their own commercials in a designated spot during commercial breaks. Of course the local commercials did not appear in the national broadcast. The less common practice was a direct sale of the show to affiliate stations with no national commercials. The affiliate station then sold all the commercial availability on their ownThis Dick Clark show was of the lesser used method and was sold to the station. They often feature some of the best known voices for their genre from across the country thus the Dick Clark's and Casey Kasem's and Rick Dees, Bob Kingsley and Dick Bartley and so many others. People collect them for various reasons. Some just collect the series because they like it and want them all. Some collect their favorite artists or genre of music. Rather than an album by the artist or a downloaded compilation , they have a unique presentation of their favorite artist or music not available anywhere else and always with dj comments which were very entertaining. Some collect interviews with their favorite artists as most shows had interview segments. Some collect commercials especially old car commercials but certainly not limited to only those. AND, these shows are in limited quantity. They were pressed just for affiliate stations in the United States. They were first distributed on reel to reel tape or on lp, later on CD and even later (after 2000 for most shows) on CDR. Now they are not available at all to collectors since they are distributed by digital download much like you get your music from iTunes. The shows that you get now and hold on to will never decrease in value and only increase. I have prided myself since the start to provide the best and fairest cost with a guarantee that you will be happy or I refund your money. I sell them for near what I bought them for. I give volume discounts and discount postage always. As the postal service increases their rates, my shipping rates over the years have decreased. With the postal service's recent huge rate hikes, my shipping rates remained exactly the same as they were. And, I have one of the biggest radio show libraries in the world consisting of way over fifteen thousand unique shows, so many that I don't even know all that I have and am sometimes amazed when I go to look for one show and find another that I did not realize I had. Finally, it is Americana at its best. Whether the show be from the 60's or 2000's, rock, countdown, oldies, country, classical, religious, jazz or big band, it is unique and home grown. And you just can't find them anywhere. Even record stores that still exist will rarely have any. Radio shows are wonderful representations of the real golden age of music radio. And every one you buy is an original, not a copy, not a remake - all are limited editions in the hundreds at most and most, like this special show, much less. Once you get hooked, like me, it is a love affair for life! Welcome to the Club! REMEMBER, This is the genuine original show that was sent to the radio station for airing. It is NOT an unauthorized copy but the Real McCoy!!! I personally guarantee that every radio show that I sell is the original show sent to stations. You are truly buying a show that will only increase in value and I am selling them at a price very close to what I paid for it. Remember that this and all the radio music shows that you see on eBay are not just about the music - the music can be found anywhere. It is the mixture of great music in themes and great announcing that makes it so entertaining. As well, it is a piece of radio and music history. Think of what they will be worth in a few years! (IF you wanted to sell.) I am selling to share with other music lovers what I was able to get at a reasonable price. It is a great show and would be a valuable addition to your collection. As always, for U.S. buyers, I charge only shipping on the first cd or single lp show you buy so the more you buy the more money you will save. (For our International buyers all shipping is through the eBay International Shipping Program)So, shipmates on the good ship "Keith's Kollectables", if you have chosen to join us on further voyages discovering the best radio shows and best music of many generations of music lovers, be prepared for great adventures! It's anchors aweigh, my friends as we set the sails and go on our journeys together.
