Description: This is an auction for an 1881 hand-colored engraving of Santa Claus by Thomas Nast from the Harper's Weekly newspaper. The title is "Hello, little one", as seen in Nast's book, Christmas Drawings for the Human Race. Santa Claus is depicted on the telephone speaking to one of the children waiting for him to drop on by. The size is 18x22 inches and the engraving has been decoupaged onto a heavy board with green Christmas trimmings and red paint. When the engraving was decoupaged, I am not sure, maybe the early 1900's, late 1800's? The work is not quite as colorful as it appears in the images, but could be if you were to clean with ArmorAll or WD-40. This work came from a recent estate of a very large Victorian home and must have been stored in the attic for a very long time, because it was very dirty, and probably could use a little more cleaning. I am not sure how they displayed this work, as there is no hanging wire or screw holes or anything for hanging. The condition is excellent considering it's age, etc. The work is on a 1/2 inch plywood board, not warped. Email with any questions or answers.
