Description: 1936 Kosmos Olympia #58 Jesse Owens Full Body Rookie Card PSA 9 Mint Pop 1 Highest Graded Jesse Owens cardboard collectibles can be very confusing for those wading into the waters of mid-1930s overseas multisport issues. Although he sadly has no American-made cards from the 1930s or even 1940s, Owens can be found in over a dozen different sets printed in 1936 in Germany, Austria, France, Belgium, and Sweden. Most of these sets feature multiple cards memorializing each of Owens' four Gold Medals, plus several casual images. Furthermore, most of the sets repeat the same core images, which were also widely circulated around the world in magazines and newspapers. In total, these several sets combine to create a 1936 Jesse Owens checklist that numbers at least 55 or more total cards, making for an attractive if not ambitious collecting target. To be clear, Owens also has a single iconic card from the 1935 Muratti set that shows him in his Ohio University gear and that can be considered something of an XRC or pre-rookie card, and he also has a number of iconic cards from 1937, which most collectors also consider to be rookie cards. Incredibly, the highest graded PSA 9 and PSA 10 examples of these 1935 and 1937 cards have each sold for several hundred thousand dollars within the last decade. For 1936, a select few of the 55+ plus different Owens cards from the XI Olympiad have likewise risen far above the majority of the checklist to become some of the most coveted and collected multisport cards in the entire hobby. One of those is featured here, which shows an iconic full-body image of the American gold medalist dressed in his racing gear and approaching the camera in a far more intimate way than almost every other Owens card ever produced. It is a well known and beloved image to Owens collectors but one that only appears in the 1936 Kosmos set and no others. It is not only unique in this sense, but it is arguably the most attractive Jesse Owens card ever produced. Like the immortal subject it showcases, here is a true American treasure graded PSA 9 Mint with no equals and none graded higher. Free shipping, as always.
