Description: This is a rare February 1960 issue of "THE THEATRE" Magazine, a Monthly Guide to Drama, Comedy and Music featuring TONY PERKINS and ZEME NORTH on the front cover. They were slated to star in the upcoming Original Broadway production of the FRANK LOESSER musical comedy "GREENWILLOW" at the Alvin Theatre in New York City. (The production would open March 8th, 1960 and run for only 97 performances.) ..... In January of 1960, Broadway composer FRANK LOESSER felt that even though ELLEN McCOWN was adequate in the role of "Dorrie" in his new musical "Greenwillow", he felt the 28 year-old actress was perhaps too old for the part. Eighteen year-old ZEME NORTH, whose only Broadway credit was a small part in the musical "Take Me Along", beat out 100 actresses in an audition to replace McCown. Her photo appeared in a number of Texas newspapers and on the cover of "The Theatre" magazine, but unfortunately her moment of glory was short-lived. The out-of-town tryouts did badly and ZEME NORTH was dropped from the cast, with Ellen McCown returning to her original role ..... The musical starred ANTHONY PERKINS (musical theatre debut) and featured CECIL KELLAWAY, ELLEN McCOWN, PERT KELTON, WILLIAM CHAPMAN, LEE CASS, BRUCE McKAY, GROVER DALE, ELAINE SWANN, LYNN BRINKER, SARALOU COOPER and DORTHA DUCKWORTH ..... CREDITS: Music and Lyrics by FRANK LOESSER ("Where's Charley?", "Guys and Dolls", "The Most Happy Fella", "Greenwillow", "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying"); Book by LESSER SAMUELS and FRANK LOESSER based on the Best-Selling Novel by B. J. CHUTE; Sets designed by PETER LARKIN; Costumes designed by ALVIN COLT; Choreographed by JOE LAYTON; Directed by GEORGE ROY HILL; Produced by ROBERT A. WILLEY in association with FRANK PRODUCTIONS ..... DETAILS: The 52 page magazine measures 8 1/4" X 11 1/8" inches and includes the current entertainment listings as well as features on the musicals "GREENWILLOW", "SARATOGA", "LITTLE MARY SUNSHINE", "A THURBER CARNIVAL" and the play "THE ANDERSONVILLE TRIAL". There are also features on JULIE NEWMAR, LAURENCE OLIVIER and SIOBHAN McKENNA .....
