Description: Offering this antique Majolica pottery vase featuring cherries and leaves with art nouveau handles curling down both sides. Measuring 8.25" this attractive vase is very colorful. Dates back to the early 19th century........ It is signed on the base BUT for some reason it was covered with white paint.......could be a factory second??????? I don't know if you can make out the signature of the shield with the letters JS but it is incised on the base with the number 4395......visible when turned. I looked carefully for flaws and I found that the paint flowed down over a bottom leaf in the pattern......and a paint dot on a flower on the right handle.......also there are some EXTRA bumps (pops) the largest being near the base in the back ( just a small dot of extra clay under the glaze.....not white) All these are in manufacture......and under the glaze.......NO DAMAGES. Majolica pottery is roughly made so please realize that if it were not for the base these situations would not have been mentioned. But I try to be very detailed in description.
