Description: This listing is for a collection of 16 vintage or antique vials of powdered spirit stains for leather goods and an original, rusty George's Tin with the remnants of its label. They are from different companies: Winsor Newtons Reeves Richardsons. The vials are different sizes and hold different pigment colours, including scarlet, blue, black, green, and sage green. Some have cork stoppers, others Bakelite screw tops, one has plastic, and two have silver coloured metal tops. One of the silver coloured metal vials is very tarnished. It seems the powder would have been mixed with methylated spirits or denatured alcohol and then applied to the leather. PLEASE NOTE Most of the vials still contain powdered leather stains. They need to be handled with great care (and gloves!) because they could stain skin, fabric, and other items. I haven't checked if they are still capable of dyeing leather, but when I accidentally spilt some of the contents of one vial, my fingertips were stained after sweeping the powder aside. It came off after scrubbing with soap. So please handle them very carefully and wear gloves! Do not ingest the powder. The Tin The George's & Co spirit stain tin is very rusty. The original paper label is mostly intact, but because it is very stained, it is almost impossible to read what it said. You can make out the words, Spirit Stain at the top and George at the bottom. And possibly that the contents are not suitable for coloured suede. It seems the tin had a felt lining which has gone. The insides of the tin are stained from pigment.
