Description: ANTIQUE SUITCASE SHAPED STEEL BANK ADVERTISING SAVINGS DEPARTMENT FIRST NATIONAL BANK HAGERSTOWN, MARYLAND WITH SLOT FOR $5 GOLD PIECE COIN This is an antique heavy all-steel constructed suitcase shaped savings bank that dates to 1911 by the patent date on the top. This bank advertises on a tag on the top for the "Savings Department First National Bank Hagerstown, MD.". The handle on top of the bank also has the number "464" imprinted on it. The sides of the bank have spots for all the various coins and quite interestingly it also has a slot for $5 gold coins. So cool. The top of the bank is marked by the manufacturer, The Bankers Service Corporation out of New York and the patent number. One side of the Bank also has a circular tag with the bank name and a graphic with the Maryland shield in the middle. We don't have the key for opening the lock on the side though. The banks used to hold these. Bank is in good condition overall for its age with some natural wear present. Please see pictures for design and condition detail. Measures about 4.5" long by 2 and 1/4" tall by 2 and 1/4" thick. Weighs over 1 lb. Wonderful and hard-to-find old heavy steel savings bank from Maryland would be a great find for your collection. Don't miss it.
