About the Book:Stuart Anderson's rise to the top in the restaurant business is a story of success over adversity. This book is a must read for anyone who enjoys steak, likes to cook steak and most of all buys steak. The recipes are mouth-watering!!! About the author, Stuart Anderson:Stuart Anderson (November 27, 1922 – June 6, 2016) was an American restaurateur best known for founding the Black Angus Steakhouse chain in Seattle in 1964. Born in Tacoma, Washington, and raised in a wealthy Seattle family, Anderson's early years were comfortable. His father was a prominent orthopedic surgeon during the Great Depression. Stuart often joked about his tough childhood, mentioning the long walk across the Broadmoor golf course to school. During World War II, Anderson joined the United States Army, driving tanks in General George S. Patton's Third Army. He returned to Seattle in 1949. After the war, Anderson bought a hotel, The Caledonia, in Seattle. To bypass the state's blue laws, he sold alcohol in the hotel bar, the Ringside Room. In his book, *Here's the Beef! My Story of Beef*, he humorously recounted that "hookers, seamen, hustlers, and wrestlers made up most of my trade." Around 1960, he opened a restaurant called The French Quarter, which he re-themed as The Gold Coast for the 1962 World's Fair. In 1964, it was renamed Stuart Anderson's Black Angus and moved to Elliott Avenue in the Denny Triangle. The Black Angus chain grew to over 100 restaurants before Anderson sold it in 1972. His 2,600-acre ranch in Thorp, visible from Interstate 90, was featured in commercials. In 2010, Anderson briefly came out of retirement to reopen a struggling Black Angus restaurant as Stuart's Steakhouse, though it closed in 2012. Anderson passed away from lung cancer at his home in Rancho Mirage on June 6, 2016, at age 93. Anderson and his restaurants pioneered the western-theme restaurant concept, influencing chains like Ponderosa Steakhouse, Bonanza Steakhouse, and Texas Roadhouse. He also mentored successful restaurant businesspeople, including Julia Stewart, CEO of DineEquity. In 2008, Anderson was inducted into the Ellensburg Rodeo Hall of Fame for his support.
