Description: 1930s Asian novelty handbag with a quaint couple amidst tropical Art Deco blooms and leaves, ribbon "waves", and a carved pagoda style house in the background. This 1920s silk ribbon purse is covered in pretty ruffles, with carved celluloid appliques hand sewn in colorful details. Condition is fair (see Condition Detail below). The top hinged frame has tortoise style flourishes, and the handle is spiral satin cord. Lined in vivid sky blue silk. In twenty-five years, we haven't seen a bag of this design, and our knowledgeable dealers' network hadn't either. A really rare find, best for display due to condition... would be lovely in a shadowbox frame. Dates to the late 20s or early 30s.
