Description: I ran into a dealer at the Edmonton Sportscard Expo on May 5-7, 2023 and he informed me that he sold 2 of these panels for $450 CAD that weekend and he had only 2 left. Interesting further, is that in Shanghai, the first 5000 people in the building received a panel and in Beijing in fact they were found on each seat as the fans entered. In 2017 Upper Deck issued hockey cards written in Chinese, and gave them to attendees of the NHL’s “China Games” — a two-game preseason series between the L.A. Kings and the Vancouver Canucks. The Kings won the first match 5-2 on September 21 in Shanghai, and again in the shootout 4-3 on September 23 in Beijing. The series marked the first time that NHL games were played in China, and for many in attendance, it was probably the first time they saw a live hockey game. Likewise, it was probably the first time many of the Chinese in attendance saw a hockey card too. Upper Deck gave away an eight-card panel of hockey trading cards. You HAD to be in China to get this card. Each card measures 2.5″ by 3.5″ size and was perforated so that they could be separated. The original sheet was folded in half and placed on every seat/handed out at the door one per person at the two games, along with a booklet about collecting hockey cards. The player that you will get is: • Sidney Crosby, Pittsburgh Penguins Here are the other cards that were IN the set:• Drew Doughty, Los Angeles Kings• Anze Kopitar, Los Angeles Kings• Henrik Sedin, Vancouver Canucks• Bo Horvat, Vancouver Canucks• Connor McDavid, Edmonton Oilers• Wayne Gretzky, Los Angeles Kings• Patrick Roy, Montreal CanadiensThe card fronts resemble Upper Deck’s inaugural 1989 baseball card set, but with the China Games logo in lieu of a team logo, and the baseball motif along the right edge replaced with hockey-centric design elements of ice and a red line.Card backs are written entirely in Chinese, save for the statistics, which still use the familiar abbreviations. One year of stats, along with the career totals, are listed on the back. Shipping is $2.47 to Canada ($1 more per lot of cards won) and $2.99 to the USA ($1.50 more per lot of cards won). Shipping is $3.99 anywhere else in the world ($2.50 more per card lot won). I will combine shipping the best I can if you purchase multiple cards. Enjoy bidding on my autograph cards that I am putting up for auction.
