Description: Up for sale today we have a stunning Vintage 1960's Wakman Triple Date Chronograph for sale, reference 72.1309.70 .Wakmann (Founded in 1946) was an importer and distributor of many watch brands to the US, operating out of New York. One of the successes of Wakmann in its early years was a contract to make cockpit clocks for the US military as an official supplier. Through this contract, a fruitful relationship with Breitling came to be. After the United States Congress passed the Swiss Watch Import Act amendments during the latter part of WWII, added tariffs hit the importation of complete watches and complete movements coming in from Switzerland. Skirting the imports, Breitling struck a deal with Wakmann to sell its watches in the US market. Breitilng was not alone in partnering with Wakmann; another Swiss brand under the name Charles Gigandet contracted the American company to gain some traction as well. The result is this Wakmann Triple-Date Chronograph. Although flying under the radar for years, these watches are recently becoming more and more appreciated, especially when found with a reverse panda dial motif such as the one we have here. The case is a nice size at 37mm; the combination of the pushers and calendar buttons extending width-wise and the long lugs certainly gives this watch a much larger appearance without compromising comfort on the wrist. The chronograph hand in red adds a nice pop of color, and we love the triple calendar layout with the crescent calendar hand. The movement is a Swiss Made Valjoux Cal. 730 manual wind with 17 jewels with a quick set month & day via top pusher, quick set date via the bottom pusher. Rated at 21,600 BPH for accuracy. 12 Hour Chronograph Recording Capability. Our example of Wakmann's Triple-Date Chrono is in really strong overall condition and presents very nicely in person. The watch has been serviced before being put out for sale & the original crystal was replaced, this is the reason for the gold crystal ring on the dial. There is cosmetic wear to the watch case as pictured such as scratches & nicks, none of these are significant & they are to be expected with the age of the watch. We paired this Wakmann with a Debeer hand crafted Alligator Grain leather band. The black leather compliments the black of the reverse panda dial perfectly & the red trim gives the same pop as the Chronograph hand.
