Description: These 2 Vintage Editions of the Watkins Glen “Glen Racing News” 8.5" x 11" Mailers (Vol. 5, No. 4 and Vol. 6, No. 5, dated September 1, 1971, and September 8, 1972, respectively) each focus on the upcoming Grand Prix of the United States, they have been in storage in a smoke and pet free home for more than 50 years, and they are in very good to excellent used condition for their ages. The September 1, 1971, edition (Vol. 5, No. 4) highlights drivers John Surtees, Dennis Hume, Mario Andretti, Jacky Ickx, Jackie Stewart, Ronnie Peterson, Emerson Fittipaldi, Graham Hill, Jo Siffert, Peter Gethen, Howden Ganley, Andrea DeAdamitch, Chris Amon, Clay Regazzoni, Henri Pescarolo, Tim Shenken, Reine Wisell, Jean-Pierre Beltoise, François Cevert, Pete Lovely, Mark Donahue, Rolf Stommelen, Nanni Galli, and John Cannon as well as racing teams including Tyrrell, Lotus, Brabham, Surtees, BRM, Ferrari, McLaren, March, and Matra. It also touches on the Glen’s multimillion dollar paving and improvement program that included modernization of the pit area and a 1.1 mile “boot” extension to the track about to be used for the first time. The September 1, 1971, “Glen Racing News” Mailer is in very good condition for its age with some minor dog ears, folds, and creases, and a handwritten address change by the USPS. The mailing labels have been covered with plain white labels. There is no significant discoloration in spite of it appearing that there is in the photos. None of the imperfections affect the legibility of the newsletter. François Cevert won the 1971 US Grand Prix in a Tyrrell, Jo Siffert finished 2nd in a BRM, and Ronnie Peterson was 3rd in a March. The September 8, 1972, edition (Vol. 6, No. 5) highlights drivers Emerson Fittipaldi, Jackie Stewart, John Surtees, Peter Revson, Mario Andretti, François Cevert, Dennis Hume, Jacky Ickx, Graham Hill, Chris Amon, Andrea DeAdamitch, Mike Hailwood, Tim Shenken, Clay Regazzoni, Peter Gethen, Henri Pescarolo, Reine Wisell, Niki Lauda, Ronnie Peterson, Jean-Pierre Beltoise, Carlos Pace, Howden Ganley, Mike Beuttler, and Dave Walker as well as racing teams including Tyrell, Lotus, Brabham, Surtees, BRM, Ferrari, McLaren, March, and Matra. The September 8, 1972, “Glen Racing News” Mailer is in excellent condition for its age with just a single fold affecting all pages and 3 minor handwritten notations, including a USPS address change. The mailing labels have been covered with plain white labels. There is no significant discoloration in spite of it appearing that there is in the photos. None of the imperfections affect the legibility of the newsletter. Jackie Stewart won the 1972 US Grand Prix in a Tyrrell, François Cevert finished 2nd also in a Tyrrell, and Dennis Hume was 3rd in a McLaren.
